Flowering Plant Pictures: Plants in My Garden

Here are some flowering plant pictures - of plants that I have grown in Oklahoma City. I do not garden with a desire for continuity, color theme, or even height preference. Everything I find gets put in any available spot left in the garden.

I have bought and/or found so many plants that most of my flower beds have a "rambling chaotic" look to them. There are always so many different things blooming at different times. I love being able to look out my windows and see flowers (or at least something green) nearly all the time.

The Best of OKC

Take a look at some of the pictures below and see if any of them look like something you would enjoy growing. Some plants I have grown from seed and others I have obtained as plants. Growing plants from seed has a special meaning for any gardener. For me, it's also a treat as I get to share it with both of my girls. They love to help out in the garden.

Ok, so they don't like weeding too much. They do love planting whatever I come across.

campanula bowl of cherries, flowering plant pictures

Back to the flowers…

Here they are in no particular order: Flowering Plant Pictures!

This is a picture of Campanula 'Bowl of Cherries'. Campanula is also called "Bellflower" because of it's shape. It is an absolutely gorgeous flowering plant. I love it. Anything that arches is a wonderful attention getter. It blooms in late spring to early summer and grows well from zone 4 to zone 8.

Would you believe that there are over 300 species in this genus? I wish I could grow them all.

monarda, bee balm, flowering plant pictures

Monarda (also called Bee Balm) is a member of the mint family. The flowers, when in full bloom, look like little fireworks displays. This has always been a favorite plant of mine. It comes in many, many different colors. It prefers some light shade and spreads well, forming a nice clump that can be divided in the fall or early spring. Butterflies love this flowering plant. It can reach 3 feet tall and grows well in zones 3 to 9.

strawflower, flowering plant pictures

This is commonly known as Strawflower. It feels just like it sounds, too. If you didn't know better, you would think was a dried flower. The strawflower is related to the sunflower. I grew mine from seed and they did wonderfully. The only thing I wish I had done was staked them so they didn't get so floppy once they grew tall. The wind in Oklahoma is fierce. Since strawflower is an annual, it doesn't really matter where you live. They'll bloom the same year you plant them.
